One of the goalie's that I had as one of my top 10 in the pre-draft that I really liked your brother has - did we all get the same list of players to draft from??? How does the draft work?? Why do I have players I never even saw before on my player list and ones I picked nowhere to be seen???

I reckon the draft was rigged. I have 5 no-hopers on my "can't cut" list!!!

Also...are there ever in fact any games in this benighted sport? I'm having trouble getting anyone on the damn ice!

Me too. There aren't many games I get too many blokes into.

14 days till the end of the month. I have 11 of those days when I have 10 or less players actually on the ice.....7 of them I can put 5 or less up!! My best day, I have 13 playing.

I have quiet days too: this Sunday, NONE of my guys will skate! But then, each team plays about 3 times a week, so each of youe guys is more likely to be sitting than playing on any given day. And look out for Saturday: heaviest schedule of the week. DS, it's a little early to call anyone a no-hoper. I wish you COULD drop those guys- I'd swoop down like a french fry pigeon. Boy, is my bro ever going nuts on the free agent market! For those of you contemplating some moves, consider the following: - Centers generally score the most. You only have 3 bench slots, so something has to give... but don't be short in this position. - Defensemen give less, particularly goals. That involves not only your Goals category, but also SHG (short-handed goals) and GWG (game-winning goals). Look to your D-men to throw up a lot of assists (both Assists and PPP-power play points), and consider devoting a couple of these slots to penalty-taking, plus/minus production. - Keep an eye on your goalies for the next week. A guy from a high-scoring, winning team will plump up your Wins... but might pooch your Save%, GAA and shutout categories. Maybe a backup who rarely plays but puts up good stats is a better pick than a starter who wins games 6-5. Or not- up to you. - A guy who plays more than one position gives you huge flexibility within your starting lineup. A center who rarely plays left wing is a godsend- you're actually starting an extra center, cheating by plugging him into LW. - Click players to see their stats... and their news stories! Ignore the game summary ones, and click the in-depth items. They often have great tips. I'm in the lead! But then, look at the tiny numbers we've all put up. I could be at the bottom tomorrow. Saturday results speak volumes...

Last night I tried to post a question, but the system was soooo slow I gave up after it timed out for the 3rd time.
Question: What is +/- exactly?? I know plus minus but it appears to be plus that gives us points.

It's the net goals scored while your man is on the ice. If your man's team scores a goal while he's on the ice, it's +1 for him. If his team's opponents score while your man is on the ice, it's -1 for him.

As each day goes by my score gets worse and worse - note that most of my players must be on holidays as there are very few actually involved in the game. This is what happens when you choose many players from the same team. Still, I would take even more Senators if anyone wants to trade - LOL! Do I understand it right that the maximum points one can get are 66? Eleven categories with a max of 6 points per category?

That's right, Eagle. And having too many players from too few teams can be a problem: maybe they all play at once, and you'll be forced to sit some active guys. On the other hand, if you're gonna load up on a team, the Senators are a wise choice.
If you look at your raw numbers, you're doing better than the rankings indicate. Seems to me your defensemen are letting you down, though: few assists, let alone on the power play; no penalties; lousy plus/minus. Your forwards seems to be carrying their weight, and your goalies are talented.
GEORGE: Get in there and take a look. Lots of bargains in the free agent pool. Mind, you have an awful lot of fabulous names underachieving right now. P'raps you should give them another few games...
Decisions, decisions.

Yers, Con. I do have a lot of "underacheivers"...and too many "can't cuts". The bastards are sitting back taking it easy, knowing their bloody jobs are safe. Wait and see for a while.

Con, I agree that my defensemen are sitting on their duffers at present. However I do think that Mezaros and Redden will turn it up several notches and again be the defensive force at least in the +/- category. Corvos has been playing well of late, but I won't be taking another D from the Sens. I will remember to keep the big picture in mind and remember to adjust my active lineup for each day so I don't inadvertently bench someone who should be playing.

Ah, the big choice: wait or act? I'm going with panic, myself.
I got one stinking goal yesterday... but it was a short-handed game winner! Whacky sport.
Incidentally, my brother and I just made a trade. Y'all can each cast a vote to nix it if you think it's unfair. You have until Sunday.
And I want to shorten to waiting time on trades: 7 days is too long. I'd like to clip it to 4 (after this trade, natch). What say y'all?

I seem to be creeping up the standings by sitting still. Go for shortening the trade wait time period. I might end up looking for some new blood. Con, I don't understand the panic part when your team is beating the crap out of the rest of us

Open your eyes, dude: I'm dead last. Squealing panic decisive action is called for. I wasn't about to sit out a full Saturday at the rate things are going, so I made a couple of moves. Cam Ward has single-handedly torpedoed my goalie categories in less than a week, so I showed that pigm'kayer the door. Mark Bell is just off of injury, and will probably heat up in the next few games, but I'm not willing to wait: Darcy Tucker is potting goals NOW. I have such mixed feelings about that trade I made (in a weak moment I actually voted against my own trade!). Hasek is putting up good numbers, and I know Selanne will catch fire and fill the net, but Robert Luongo is touted by everybody to kick ass this year, and the Vancouver Canucks are starting him almost every game. Spacek I could part with without a care- D-men are a dime a dozen. I might even bring in a goon in his place to plump up my penalty minutes. Saturdays say so much: I have every starting slot filled, even had to sit 2 guys. No way the standings stay the same over the weekend- they're still swinging violently. Check out the total dogfight for assists. Oh, Congrats, DS, you're on top. There are no weakneses in your lineup. Wish I could say the same.

Penalty minutes has me a bit puzzled. Do you score PMs when your bloke has just beaten the crap out of somebody and has been sentenced to the sin-bin? Is this right? Is this fair? Is this in the "spirit" of the game??

Yes. If some guy gets rough with one of your stars, your enforcer beats the crap out of him. Remember, this is a sport played on stainless steel bladed skates, whle carrying a stick that could easily kill someone. Once in a while guys drop those weapons and pummel each other. It channels the violence into something that won't end anyone's career/sightedness/life.
You also get penatlies for a host of other, non-violent stuff. These can really add up. But the fights are where the enterprising fantasy leaguer cleans up. In that one single category. A goon with a good plus/minus is hard to find- one who scores is a dream.

Last year I thought that the +/- was to do with penalty minutes so I loaded up with guys with real high negative numbers. No wonder I was in last place. Knowing the rules really helps!!!

I'll try to answer. If you are on the ice when your team scores a goal, you are awarded a + point. If you are on the ice when your opponent scores a goal, you are awarded a - point. When all is said and done, you are a more valuable player if you have a high plus rating. If you have a high negative rating your team will likely limit your ice time or else trade you away as it is an indication that you are a liability to your team.

So, basically, there is nothing we can do about that? Considering that we have no control over who is on or off, and given that we don't have more than 1 or 2 players in any given team, it's just a lucky, or unlucky, item.

Actually, there is something you have to say - it is more about who you choose to keep on the team and who you send packing.
