Travelled for a day...seeing the baby.
Lucky to be home. Suzhou is really getting lashed by the latest typhoon. We're supposedly too far inland or something to be at much risk here, but it's definitely more than the good strong thunderstorm that we normally get from typhoons.
I had a nice stout new umbrella with me. It had only been used to go upside one or two heads so far and still had its handle and all...today the wind broke it at the handle and snapped two of the ribs!

It broke two of your ribs?? I'm sorry to hear that, Rayool. It must be painful. Dr. Nobody will have some good advice for you, I'm sure. Hadn't heard about your Typhoon until Babe called me to watch the TV...Intrepid girl reporter was out in the wind and rain giving first-hand reports.....had a rope tied around her waist, being held by a couple of blokes, out of shot.

I opened this thread thinking it was going to be about George.
Those poor girls, being a skinny chinese reporter in a typhoon must be unnerving. They look like they weigh all of about 40kgs dripping wet. (I wonder who the anchor was?)
Raoul - take one bottle of tequila for those two ribs and maybe add some ions - salt will do in a pinch - and perhaps a source of vit C. Any citrus. Apply liberally to the open wound in your soul.
Don't call me in the morning. Make it late afternoon.

I was about to make an "anchor needs an anchor" joke, but Nobody sort of beat me to it.

I've always been a Daddy. I'll be a participatory one again.
She's 18 months, absolutely beautiful, fully ambulatory, speaks Chinese like a blue streak, and gets into things you don't even see until it's too late.

Have fun with parenthood. You're about to enter the happy wonderful blissful stage of child rearing called "the terrible twos," a very apt name.

And you figure I have energy! Nothing like an 18 month old who can wrap Daddy around her little finger. Been there, done that - the only method of survival? ENJOY the circus - it disppears into adolescence way too fast!

That's awesome news, Raoul. Soon she'll be speaking English like a blue streak. If memory serves me correctly, "NO" is the favorite word of 2-year olds.

This is my 3rd child...I know the drill! The apprehension is not for the baby...it's for Mom.

Well, I'm not going there with advice, or even a comment - other than I hope things work out for you.
Back to the original post - I think we're getting your typhoon. Yesterday afternoon was ominously dark and it started raining last evening. Sometime in the middle of the night the wind picked up and was howling. Nothing like you got, I'm sure, as we are on the tail-end of it. Still a steady rain - unusual for this area - but the wind has finally died down. Guess I'm ready to put on my poncho and head for school. It's definitely more than umbrella weather.

And I'm making plans to travel there because...
Oh yeah, fellowship and something about working on a book. Could you folks in Suzhou do something about the humidity before Oct 1st, please. It frizzes my hair.

The weather should be getting nice by October 1 or so. If you're really, really lucky the osmanthus flowers will be in bloom by then!
Are you really coming here?

Uh, you mean, sorry too many things happening lately to pay attention to other threads besides my own self-indulgent agonizing one's, but let me get this right: you mean, there's going to be ANOTHER alchohol floor sucking extravaganza in Suzhou? If that's the case, it seems I'm arriving just on time!
