Liaoning: my school wants a second FT to handle demand for more classes than I can teach alone. Honest admin, wicked cook, smallish town but on a major rail route w/ access to Shenyang and Dalian; Anshan a reasonable drive away. 4000Y per month plus room (w/ BR, western ca and "humble" shower unit) and board (did I mention the wicked cook?) Return airfare reimbursed upon completion of contract 1000Y travel allowance The usual holidays Primary say in class content and textbook selection Drinking encouraged Get this: MAXIMUM CLASS SIZE IS 15 students I'll probably sign up for a second tour.

Well, that took, what, 6 hours? The job is filled. There's a Canadian who should be here in about a month, but in 2 days an Australian is showing up from his first disastrous posting somewhere in the Harbin area. Given the classic Chinese shafting he got (you all know the routine, it's a cliche by now), I expect he'll sign. The school wants more foreigners, but I'll reactivate this job posting when we've put the neural implants into these two and made them change their wills.

Okay, surly Canadian FT assimilated, lecherous Australian FT in shallow grave. And now an opening again for mid-October at the latest: The gig is the same as above. I need someone to take over my classes (and my students- MINE!!!). I will, of course, hate you for replacing me in their hearts, but nonetheless will show you the ropes, and advise you on how to avoid my mistakes. Chris, the other FT, is a good guy, Lynn the vice-principal, sets a tough standard but is a wonderful person, and Mr. Zhou, the headmaster, is the Chinese George Jefferson ("Weeezaaay!"), funny, a little nuts, and considerate of his FT's to the point of annoying. After I go home, I'll come back to the school for a while, but the gig and the classes (and the students ) will still be yours. This is the perfect starting gig for China. The kids are well-mannered and motivated, the school backs you up when parents get bitchy, and prices in Dashiqiao are among the lowest in China. The school will push you to improve your teaching as you go, but are patient and realistic about it- if you have some training, you'll be fine. If you don't love kids, piss off and work somewhere else.

UPDATE: Time to rope another laowai, possibly two. Take what I said last year, add that there are 3 FTs here presently, and that we have some social connections in Dalian, so the big city trips are a more attractive proposition. So put the word out, all.

15 students in a class? Stunned on this end......... Correction: 13 or less... or much less (i.e. 5-6!) Read 'em and weep. A downside, though: no moonlighting. Not in town, anyway.

15 students in a class? Stunned on this end......... Correction: 13 or less... or much less (i.e. 5-6!) Read 'em and weep. A downside, though: no moonlighting. Not in town, anyway. Clarification: 5 different classes. Number of students: 5, 6, 6, 7 and 11. And you have a translator! As far as I'm concerned, that's out-and-out cheating. If you know anyone looking for a slower-paced year, let me know.

A typical Dan: all macho about the heat, but show them a snowflake and they scream like little girls.

No, it isn't the weather. George is not that far away, in the neighboring province of Shandong.
It's just all those warrants out for him in Liaoning...

Water should not become solid at any time of the year, outside of a drink.

Cheers Woza Now I have to clean! And close down the "factory class" for a week. Oh, the organ donor interruption! Western people will die for lack of barely-used livers and kidneys. Their blood is on your hands, Woza.

Con you never mentioned that I could get new kidneys and a liver. Don't try and palm me off with some old government official's organ though. While I am up there I promise not to clean if you do.

Cheers Millana, Now I have asked you before, tell me have you accepted a job yet? I am going for a job interview with one of the dreaded language mills Talenty education. I have done a bit of research and talked to a teacher who works there part -time. Cheers Woza
