Some kind of national secret? I didn't think we had them, outside of who is gay in parliament, which no one cares about anyway.

All this the same week under the headline Australians need to quit singing in the shower, it's reported Ozlanders are being asked to not shave or brush teeth in the shower but over the sink so as not to waste so much H2 O. Coke reportedly pumped down the aquifers in Southern India as well. When questioned about the morality of it when the common folks wells went dry Coke officials reported replied, "let them buy bottled water."

Coke officials reported replied, "let them buy bottled water." Sounds a bit like Marie Antionette, and we all know how she turned out. George, is your brother, by any chance, Steve Bracks (Premier of Victoria)?

Beauty queen's legs before arms Jerusalem November 19, 2006 JERUSALEM. Miss Israel has been given permission to not carry her rifle while serving in the army because she says it bruises her legs. Israel's reigning beauty queen, Yael Nezri, a private who recently completed basic training, said the bruises were making modelling difficult. The Jerusalem Post reported that Miss Nezri, 18, had been granted an exemption by her commanders during her two-year army stint.

Senate finds no al-Qaida-Saddam link By JIM ABRAMS, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 1 minute ago Saddam Hussein rejected overtures from al-Qaida and believed Islamic extremists were a threat to his regime, a reverse portrait of an Iraq allied with Osama bin Laden painted by the Bush White House, a Senate panel has found. As recently as an Aug. 21 news conference, President Bush said people should "imagine a world in which you had Saddam Hussein" with the capacity to make weapons of mass destruction and "who had relations with Zarqawi." ___ Well, Iraq is a complete mess now. The US cannot fix the situation, but neither can it withdraw... the consequences to its standing, prestige and credibility will be as bad if not worse than after Vietnam. Yet, even if by some miracle it were to impose some kind of peace on Iraq, that peace will disappear the minute US troops leave. The sectarian divide is just too great. Neither Sunnis nor Shi'ites will give an inch. Iraqi Christians, Assyrians and Kurds are all agitating for greater autonomy. The Iraqi police force is completely corrupt and incompetent. American trainers are forced to wear body armour INSIDE the police stations due to distrust of their Iraqi charges. Many Iraqi police recruits receive their weapons and training and immediately defect to one of the Sunni or Shi'ite factions. They do this partly due to the desire to align themselves with their people, and also because the life expectancy of Iraqi police officers is very short. Meanwhile, with America's so-called "ally" Saudi Arabia funding the Sunni militias and Iran backing the Shi'ites, a steady influx of Muslims from around the world who believe it is their solemn duty to kill infidels (that's us non-Muslims), and an inflow of weapons, the situation doesn't look likely to improve. And guess where those British, Canadian and American muslims go when they finish fighting? They return to Britain, Canada and the US, but with skills in bomb-making and urban warfare. We have a lot to thank Bush for.

And it seems that despite evidence my revered leader won't back off and say 'hey we got it wrong' when it was pretty clear all along that we were moving into this type of situation. Why can't we EVER learn from history??? Isn't that why we have history - so we can quit repeating the same mistakes?

He's a small man, and I'm not referring to his physical statue. He could be 2 foot nought and it wouldn't worry me. But it takes a big person to admit to being wrong, and taking steps to ensure that the mistakes don't happen again.

I vote Howard, and the reason is that he is FAR the lesser of two evils. I would be happy not to see another Labor government in office for a long time. Under Labor, our immigration and multicultural programs were appallingly mismanaged, they ran the country into debt, and the strangling vines of political correctness were allowed to run rampant over political and social discourse in the country. Labor used multiculturalism to divide Australia into ethnic blocs that could then be bought up one by one. As a cynical ploy to buy votes at the expense of national unity, it goes far beyond "Children Overboard". It was just low.
Beazley was an idiot who had nothing to say apart from criticising everything Howard did, and now he's gone it's something of a relief. Rudd might make a good leader, but the simple fact is that Labor doesn't really have the will to win elections - certainly not next year, and not, given their love of factionalism, disunity and infighting, in 2010 either. Beazley hit it on the head when he said that a rabble would not beat Howard next year. I don't think even a good Labor team can beat him... the fact is, oppositions don't win elections, governments lose them. And Howard's government is rock solid, they're not doing much wrong. As long as the Coalition continues its track record of solid, reasonable government, they can't and won't lose elections.
I still don't understand why it's so fashionable to call Howard racist. What exactly has he done that's so racist? I think it's an unthinking reflex among lefties fond of emotive labelling in place of reasoned debate.

Refugees! Aborigines! His attitude to Pacific Islands! He is such a rat-cunning bastard, he can make people think he is compassionate. Many things he doesn't do also point to his racist attitude. In my book, he is a total prick! Let's hope Rudd can get up on his hind legs and give Labor a new lease on life.

Queue jumpers. Or else they're the richest refugees I've ever seen. It costs about $10,000 a head to get passage on one of those boats to Australia. Real refugees make for the nearest safe territory and work out their lives from there. They don't cross an ocean and through four or five other (safe) countries, spending thousands of dollars, to make for a rich country far away. Oh, and conveniently lose their papers along the way. The term "refugees" is the biggest misnomer I've ever heard.
And I just know Howard is responsible for the utter failure of the Pacific nations to get their acts together. Coup after coup after riot after rebellion... all Howard's fault, of course!

As for the Aborigines, I doubt they'd be any better off under a Labor government. There comes a time when the Aborigines need to stand up for themselves and take some responsibility. Unfortunately, their so-called "leaders" are completely useless and have made little progress on behalf of the people they claim to represent. Of course to listen to Mick Dodson and the like, Aborigines will all have jobs, nice housing and great health tomorrow if the government would just say "sorry".
And the initiatives undertaken by Aboriginal communities themselves are derailed by loony Lefties who think it's their place to tell Aborigines what to do. Witness the furore over "dry communities". The Aborigines supported the idea. Who vehemently opposed it? White, middle-class armchair liberals who had most likely never set foot in an Aboriginal community on welfare cheque day. The sooner Aborigines insist on the solutions that will benefit them most, stop listening to the grandstanding of their leaders, and the idiot liberals get out of the way, the sooner they'll be on track to improving their lot.

This is a situation that can never be solved, so I will just agree to disagree. We both have opposing views, and never will convince the other they are wrong. If you were Andrew Bolt, I would supply a comeback, but this isn't the place for a fight.

Queue jumpers. Or else they're the richest refugees I've ever seen. The term "refugees" is the biggest misnomer I've ever heard. Let's differentiate between refugees and asylum seekers, please. Regugees have been cleared by the UNHCR, and they have normally been living in refugee camps [for up to 10 years!] one or two national borders away from their homeland, eg. Kurds in Turkey, Rwandans in Kenya, Liberians in Ghana. And being a refugee doesn't mean you have to be poor. I teach refugee kids of an Iranian optometrist, whose crime is that they are Baha'i. Of course, here in Oz, he's a taxi driver. They're not poor, however. Another family made their way across Afghanistan to Pakistan, where they lived comfortably in rented housing before being granted refugee status. They all left their country in fear of their lives, on the grounds of religious persecution. Note that these second countries didn't lock them up in razor wire encircled compounds, or stick them on Pacific Islands at the cost of hundreds of millions of $. So let's make sure we know what we're talking about.
